This is the other one, perhaps stronger than the other one because there is greater distance within the image?  I thoroughly enjoyed this exercise, and found it easy to create a range of images that I felt were effective in some way. (The detail of this exercise is written up in my paper based learning log).

This was one of the best two results from the first exercise of section 3 of the illustration course.  I did loads of samples, first cutting and moving the objects around and photographing them, and then used an iPad app called Mixel which allows you to create collages really easily. The two strongest results are similar.  I think they work best because they have a bit of mystery about them and could be layered with a number of different meanings.

So ended up adding pen and ink to give it form rather than more collage..

This is the final version of the black-and-white exercise. Although I didn’t follow task as described, I had a lot of fun with this and although it’s quite a bizarre result I like it. I purposely repeated shapes in black and white and I like the rhythm this creates. It has a scraper board type effect.

So in the next version I decided to colour everything yellow, with the exception of the collaged carpet.  Slight improvement but still not entirely successful.  Still, I have learned that I have to be more discerning about the right tools for the job. I think I might do a digital version of the image.  Alternatively use a pen to draw the image and upload and collage in cut outs digitally.
